Forward By Organising Chairman Of The COTY, Yamin Vong

The Malaysia Car of the Year (COTY) awards for the year 2023 marks yet another significant milestone in the history of Malaysia’s motoring industry With 118 vehicles evaluated by our esteemed panel of 12 judges, we have witnessed the emergence of outstanding automobiles that have captured our hearts and imagination.

This year’s COTY awards will be like no other as we venture into uncharted territory of electric vehicles (EV) and electric charge point operators.

Recognizing the power and reach of social media, we have decided to make this event a groundbreaking video affair, ensuring that the MCOTY Awards can be seen by everyone in our vibrant automotive community.

Through this new format, we hope to engage a wider audience and showcase the innovations and advancements made by the Malaysian automotive industry.

A remarkable trend that deserves special mention is the surge in electric vehicles (EVs) within our market. As we stand at the intersection of environmental consciousness and automotive progress, it is heartening to note that this year, an astounding 29 EVs were launched this year. However, while three of the EVs were indeed launched within the nomination window, these iconic cars will be delivered after the nomination time frame and therefore eligible for evaluation for the following year’s MCOTY.

This huge increase in the EV market is a testament to the government’s initiative to steer Malaysia towards a greener future It is also a reflection of the competitiveness of the industry leaders that the government’s incentives were acted on.

It is a clear indication that our nation’s decarbonization journey has indeed gained momentum, and the automotive sector is a proud participant in this vital transition. Furthermore, reflecting the transitional phase of decarbonisation our panel of judges has made a commendable decision to introduce additional awards for plug in hybrids and powerful hybrids.

This reaffirms our commitment to acknowledging and encouraging the development of eco conscious vehicles that utilize advanced hybrid technologies.

By recognizing the contributions of these innovative automobiles, we hope to inspire further advancements in sustainable mobility solutions In line with our vision to promote cutting edge technology and progress, the panel has chosen to pass on mild hybrids that do not possess a traction motor.

This ensures that only the most deserving contenders are recognized and celebrated in various categories.

We remain committed to quality and excellence, constantly seeking vehicles that push the boundaries of performance, efficiency, safety, and overall driving experience.

The Malaysia Car of the Year awards represent not only a celebration of the automotive industry but also a recognition of the hard work and dedication put forth by manufacturers, designers, engineers, and all those involved in creating the remarkable vehicles we witness today.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the participants and congratulate the winners in their respective categories.

Except for the 2 year hiatus of the pandemic, the Malaysia Car of the Year awards picks up from where it left off in 2019 but with the inclusion of many exciting cars from the world’s newest and largest car maker, China.

As we embark on this trailblazing video event, it is our hope that you will not only applaud the winners but also join us in celebrating the tremendous strides made by the Malaysian automotive industry.

Together, let us embrace a future where advanced technologies merge seamlessly with sustainable practices, and where driving becomes an extraordinary experience for all.
